Do you know what tax free shopping is? According to tax free regulations, if you buy certain kinds of goods in the European Union while being a resident of a country outside the EU, and you are bringing them with you as you get back to your home country no later than 30 days after the purchase, then you have the right to get your VAT/IVA tax refunded. Isn’t that great?

The day you are living the EU, before departure, locate the VAT validation machine in the port or airport (in Spain these are called “DIVA machines”), and pass the refund request code in your app in front of the reader in the machine. You may be asked to go show the purchased goods in the customs office to prove they are unused and you are bringing them with you, so have them ready.
