[AD:PR product] Throwback to pre-makeover days in the living room (it’s still not ready enough to take a shot from this angle but swipe for a little teaser!). I want to talk fireplaces. This room has a proper chimney but it’s blocked off (there used to be a gas fire which I ripped out as it was an excessively 80s design). I’ve always wanted a log burner in there but couldn’t face the hassle and mess and expense of getting the chimney sorted out. We have 2 massive cast iron radiators in here already so no shortage of heating but I love looking at the flames of a real fire. Magical innit? . . I’d come across @imaginfires on the amazing Karen’s @makingspacesnet blog a couple of years back and filed them away in my memory roladex (yes, I have one). They make bioethanol fireplaces which run on little squeezy bottles of eco-friendly fuel and have a real flame, but without the soot, smoke and mess. They emit a nice level of heat - not enough to be your primary heating source, but a good boost to your central heating (they can increase the temperature in a room by 3-5 degrees). The logs in there are ceramic and the flue is just for show. You literally take it out of the box, add the fuel and off you go. I absolutely love it (I approached @imaginfires to chat about the product, not the other way round), it’s added a cosiness to the room that was missing before now. They have a huge range of different styles and some cracking Black Friday offers this weekend.
