Dining Room Design / Decoration Ideas & Inspiration (Simple, Small, Modern, Luxury)

The dining room is such a small room, but has taken a lot of time and energy to complete! When we first bought the home, it had awful laminate sheet flooring, there was paneled walls and a drop ceiling. We removed the drop down ceiling and revealed that tongue and groove beauty(which used to be dark green) This gave us another 2 feet to the height of the ceilings. Unfortunately as much as I wanted to, we had to cover up the tongue and groove board! Since this is not our forever home, it would have taken days to sand and caulk that whole ceiling. I told Michael that in my forever home we will have that though. 😉We removed all of the paneling off of the walls and unveiled red brick all around the room. I wanted to keep that character so we painted it white. We put the shiplap on the wall with the window and the one next to it due to just old studs being behind there. So we framed that out, new drywall and put shiplap on. When we removed the shelving, we found an old exterior window!!! That was one of our coolest finds. It told so much about the house when it was in its glory days aka 1890. I wanted to keep the character of that, and so we decided to tile in it to showcase it. We stained the bottom wood to match the other stained wood in our kitchen. All of that window area is as old as the house and I really wanted to keep it. Due to this house being a shot gun style home, having doors close off spaces makes the whole house feel smaller, so we took off the door, and above the door was a transom window opening. If there were windows we would have kept them, but it was just an opening. We removed them to make the openings taller, and also to make the rooms feel larger. The floor joists were rotted so michael put in new joists. We had to level the whole floor to put in new flooring. We added new crown molding, new lights and this room feels completely different and is one of my favorite transformations.
