We went dark! Well at least on this wall in the dining room. Getting to this point was quite the journey, and may have been our most challenging yet. We started by taking off wallpaper, which led to us realizing there was drywall. After a lot of fretting...because who knows what you’re going to get when you start taking off drywall...we took the plunge. We truly aren’t sure why they decided to drywall over the plaster in the first place. There definitely were some deep holes and longer cracks, but nothing that couldn’t of been fixed. Instead, the industrial glue/builders glue/compound ended up ripping off perfectly good sections of plaster. Basically, we ended up re-doing 40-50% of the plaster. It was worth it though. Removing the drywall gave us 1/2 an inch to a full inch back of our woodwork depending on how they taped for the drywall. Still working on cleaning the woodwork from it’s probably 20 or so years covered by drywall and gunk. On the green wall, we added textured wallpaper because some sections are just a little wonky to the eye. Someday we may go back and perfect it. For now though we are happy it can be ready to host Thanksgiving for our parents. This was a long post, but it was a long journey.
