Design Tip Tuesday - contrast vs. harmonizing
Though this bathroom was new the year before, and not lacking detail, it didn’t feel quite finished.
While contrast provides visual interest, you need a balance of contrasts for a harmonious design.
In the original bathroom design (swipe right for before) neither the green or white were eye-catching because typically your eye doesn’t know where to settle when there are only two colors and a 50/50 split.
Adding wallpaper that shared the same creamy color background as the wainscoting, trim and floor, with an added touch of light, willowy green, gives the eye a chance to rest for a bit, and then go on to discover and appreciate the other details throughout the bathroom.
Often a 30/70 split of colors or textures provides a good balance. However, it depends on how many colors you’re using, their intensity and what you’re trying to accomplish.
